The principle of Right Livelihood comes from the Buddhist Noble Eightfold Path and refers to earning a living in a way that is ethical, honest, and harmless to others. It emphasizes work that contributes positively to society and aligns with personal values, rather than causing suffering or harm.
🌿 Key Aspects of Right Livelihood:
- Ethical Work:
- Avoid jobs that harm people, animals, or the environment.
- Examples of discouraged livelihoods: dealing in weapons, human trafficking, or industries that exploit others.
- Positive Contribution:
- Choose careers that benefit society, such as education, healthcare, sustainable business, or community development.
- Work that promotes well-being, justice, and compassion is ideal.
- Mindful Earning:
- Income should come from work done with integrity, fairness, and responsibility.
- Focus on quality of life, not just financial gain.
- Sustainability and Balance:
- Seek a balance between personal needs, community welfare, and the planet’s health.
- Modern interpretations often tie Right Livelihood to the circular economy, ethical entrepreneurship, and impact-driven work.
Is it a dream of mine to be on a career path that aligns with RIGHT LIVELIHOOD.
I chose to study Engineering in Biotechnology because of this dream of mine, but got derailed… you know.. I needed/need to pay things to have a life.
I understand what is like to live in a world where capital and your access to it defines your choices, so I hold no judgement at all.
Still, I’m trying to find my way by studying in low-cost ways, creating this website. Action is key and I’ve been paralized for many years.
I hope I’ll find a place that allows me to take care of whatever I have an impact on, while having a dignified life.
I hope we all will <3.
